Creators Update – RIP Redstone 2

It has been said and so it shall be done!  The next big release for the Windows OS has been re-dubbed as “Creators Update”.  Microsoft has put a lot of emphasis recently on how it supports the creative professionals: graphic designers, web content creators and all those other folks who make our world so much prettier.

The Creators Update will focus on these key areas:

  • AR and VR, including ‘3D for everyone’
  • 4K display options
  • In-game broadcasting
  • Improved connections with your friends and family

“Imagine what you’ll do”.

New Paint App to be released soon

After many rumors and some leaks it has been announced that a new version of Paint is coming from Microsoft.  The new app will be called Paint 3D and will include some 3D manipulation tools.  It is a huge update for the default image app in the Windows world.

This software release fits into the hardware releases recently (Studio and Dial) as well as the “Creator Update” and the recent focus change from Microsoft to highlight creative and innovative over business and practical in the desktop world.  Well done!

Cool gadget alert!

Another amazing new product!

Microsoft is really pushing hard into the fruit computer market.  Long time mainstay red, round fruit fans 😉 are looking at this as a great alternative.

Holy smokes!  Hold onto your hat.

Thin and stylish as well!? This is not your daddy’s PC

This one looks really neat.  Microsoft has released Surface Dial.  This is a hardware device to use with your Surface (TM).  It allows you to rotate objects, scroll through lists, turn sliders and all the other things you need your thumb for normally.  It takes creativity to a new level and has tons of practical application as well.  It can be found on the Microsoft store and retails for 99$ CAD.

New tricks with Edge

I like Edge.  I know that most people would think I need a support group but I am right (like all addicts I believe) 🙂 It is a great application. Check out my previous Edge posts if you dont believe me. Here are some new tricks just released.

  1. Pin tabs
Here is the deal: Open a tab in Edge.  Go to a website.  Right-click the tab and pin it. Next time you open Edge you will get a new tab (the one you just pinned)
  2. Tab Preview
Just mouse over any open tab and you will get a preview of the page.   Easy!
  3. Swipe Navigation
Allows you to scroll between pages using left and right swipes

Voila! Just a few new quick tricks to use in Edge!

Happy  webbing 🙂

Phil Spencer is my hero!

I have been very lucky.  I have a family, wife, a home, friends and a great job.  On that list I also include the fact that I am an MVP and got to play with Hololens at OpenDay last year.  What a cool device.  It runs an Augmented Reality (AR) or Moxed Reality (MR) depending on who you ask. It overlays computer generated images onto real world physical space. It can be as simple as putting a dancing hippo in your living room or asa meaningful as projecting part usage in mechanical devices so you can see what parts have reached or exceeded life usage specs.  This is not news.

This is: IT WILL ALSO RUN GAMES.  Okay, I dont work in a mechanical factory and I do own my own hippo already so this is easily the coolest thing this geek has heard in a while. The coolest part:  VR is limited based on where you are.  AR/MR is not – the monsters can follow you anywhere!  Now that Pokemon Go has thinned out the herd of people who cant multitask we will be able to play these devices anywhere!!

Game industry has always been a huge driver in terms of financials. Hopefully this will further bolstering funding, support and usage for a superior device that may get left by the way side. Hopefully us gamers can do what we have done in the past: use technology so much that everyone else sees and wants to use – we pull them with us.

Gamers unite!
